Irina González "La Verdolaga"
"Te extiendes como verdolaga" ("You spread like purslane"), says a Mexican saying (just like myself), and so my artistic practice expands in a rhizomatic and multifaceted way: from staging and theater production, through dramaturgy, acting, and creating audio series for radio as a writer and actress, to visual design for the stage and the creation of videomapping works and intensive short films.
My "Verdolaga" practice also unfolds across borders, rooted in Mexico City and Quebec, branching out to other latitudes through collaborations with artists from different disciplines, always aiming to provoke encounters with diverse audiences.
I arrived in the city of Quebec in 2019. I am currently nearing completion of my Doctorate in Literature and Performing and Screen Arts at Université Laval, where I investigate the scenic integration of imaging technologies — such as videomapping and the Pepper’s ghost effect — as well as sound — through its spatialization and digital modification — with the goal of representing a "dreamlike body." I proposed this notion as a form of sensitive and mutable creation that invites the audience to immerse themselves in sensory and poetic experiences within intermedial universes.
I hold a Master’s degree in Stage Direction from the National Institute of Fine Arts of Mexico and a Bachelor’s degree in Dramatic Literature and Theater from the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
